Jim Bentley was delighted to see his side’s gameplan come off in a “fantastic” 1-0 victory at Burton on Saturday.
The Shrimps ended a run of two straight defeats thanks to Ryan Williams’ fortuitous strike - the midfielder deflecting Kevin Ellison’s shot in to give Morecambe a lead they never looked like surrendering.
Bentley said: “It’s a fantastic result for us.
“In my eyes they’re one of the favourites in this league.
“They scored a lot of goals last season and have lost (Jacques) Maghoma and (Calvin) Zola but they’ve brought in some quality players.
“They’d won their last three and hadn’t conceded a goal so we knew it was going to be a tough game coming into it but we got a little bit of luck.
“Things go for you and against you and they’ve certainly gone for us today, with a shot from Kev that’s hit Ryan on the backside and shot into the other corner.
“Once we got our lead I think the defences were on top but it was tough with the windy conditions and it was heart in mouth a couple of times when the ball was swirling around.
“The game plan went as we wanted, we sat back in second half and hit them on the break a couple of times and with a little bit more quality we could have had another goal or two.
“But I’ll take 1-0 away at Burton. It’s not been a happy hunting ground for us in the past but I’m absolutely delighted with the response to losing the last two games in the manner that we’ve lost them.
“The players showed loads of determination today and desire as a group, to come here and get clean sheet is fantastic and it’s a great three points for us that puts us back up to where we want to be.”
