Morecambe boss Jim Bentley was pleased with his side’s display after they kicked off their pre-season campaign with victory over Burnley at the Globe Arena on Tuesday night.
Kevin Ellison’s goal 10 minutes from time gave the Shrimps a 1-0 win in what was a largely entertaining contest.
Bentley said: “The main thing is getting minutes in and making sure you come through injury free.
“We’ve got one or two bangs and bruises and a little tightness here and there but that’s to be expected in pre-season and overall it’s a good workout and it does give you a bit of confidence.
“Right across the board everyone’s got game time and we move on.
“Nothing’s won in July and it’s all about getting geared up and ready for when we can get points on the board.”
The Shrimps boss was pleased with the options five new summer signings have given him and said places were up for grabs with the whole squad getting some game time on Tuesday night.
He said: “Although we’ve got quite a stretched squad, there’s good competition.
“We’ll make sure we’re adaptable, do the work and the combinations and partnerships will all grow in pre-season.
“I’ve said to the lads it’s all down to them and they’ve got to work hard in training.
“It’s too early days after one game to say I can see that developing there or that developing there, I think it’s just a case of getting our eye back in and making sure that we’re back playing football.”
Andreas Arestidou had been expected to play half the match but missed out through illness. Andy Parrish wasn’t risked due to a tight hamstring.
Chris McCready is expected to return from ankle surgery for the friendly against Middlesbrough on July 17.
