Bentley and Ellison up for first awards of season

Jim Bentley and Kevin Ellison have been nominated for the Sky Bet League 2 manager and player of the month awards for August.

Shrimps boss Bentley has guided his side to four wins out of five in the opening month of the new season.

Ellison is joint top of the early season goal scoring charts with four goals as he played in key role in Morecambe’s fine start.

Other nominees for the manager award are Shrewsbury’s Micky Mellon, Gary Rowett of Burton Albion and Cheltenham Town boss Mark Yates.

Also up for the player award is Cheltenham ‘keeper Trevor Carson, Wycombe’s Peter Murphy and AFC Wimbledon striker Matt Tubbs.

The judging panel is chaired by former Football League manager Dave Bassett with Sky Sports’ Football League expert Don Goodman, Football League Chief Operating Officer Andy Williamson, League Managers’ Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery. The winners of both awards will be announced this Friday, September 5.
