Bentham let two goal lead slip but Earle nets winner late on

The first half was fast and furious but remained without a goal with both keepers playing well.

Bentham started the better in the second half and soon opened up a two goal lead with goals from Thomas Burns and Ryan Preston.

Thinking the game was won Bentham lost concentration and paid dearly for it when Andrew Forbes and then Anthony Turner scored for Trimpell to make the game level again.

With time running out it looked as though it was going to be yet another draw for Bentham until the 90th minute when Sean Earle took advantage to score the winner with almost the last kick of the game to earn Bentham only their third win of the season so far, which moved them up to fifth in the league.

Galgate entertained a much improved Marsh United side just two places behind them in fourth place.

Galgate started the first half in tremendous form and went into the lead after just 12 minutes.

A corner from the right was whipped over to the far post where Lee Clarke met it to score with ease.

Things got worse for the Marsh side when after 20 minutes they found themselves two goals behind when Geoff Wilson volleyed into the back of the net from 15 yards, giving the keeper no chance.

Galgate continued to mount attack after attack with very little resistance from the Marsh team.

Galgate went into a 3-0 lead after 35 minutes when after an eight pass move Chris Gardner scored with a half volley from 18 yards.

The second half saw a big improvement in the Marsh side as they tried to get into the game. They had two excellent strikes on goal from free-kicks only for the Galgate keeper to deny them.

In Division One Lancaster Rovers came out on top against Arnside for the second week running, winning 2-1.

Rovers won the previous encounter 6-3 but this game was much closer with Arnside playing the kind of football they normally play with the result in doubt until the final whistle.

James Thornton, a regular scorer for Arnside, scored again but it Michael Reghilini’s double which won the game for Rovers to move them into third place.

In the local derby between near neighbours Carnforth Rangers Reserves and bottom club Millhead there was nothing between the two teams for a long time with Millhead missing a couple of chances to take the lead.

Carnforth had more possession but their attacks often broke down on the edge of the penalty area.

The goals when they did come were two beauties scored by Malakay Brookes and young Joe Burchill.

Kirkby Lonsdale’s yo-yo season continued with a very good performance against a highly competitive Heysham side.

In Joe Mather they had the man of the match as he scored a superb hat-trick to deny Heysham getting a foothold in the game.

Jay Harrington scored a peach of a goal but it was never going to be enough.

Both teams had high hopes of gaining promotion this season but it is now highly unlikely as they are 15 points behind the leading two.
