Morecambe’s newest professional is hoping to push for a place in the first team come the start of the season.

Youth and reserve team central defender Will Bell has penned a one-year deal at the Globe Arena and hopes he can turn hard work on the training field into League 2 appearances.

The former under 17s and under 18s captain said: “I’ll be training hard every day to push for a place in the first-team.

“And in reserve games I’ve got to step up and show what I’ve got.

“I’m not going to sit around I’m going to give it my all and go for it and see what I can do.”

Bell, who was an unused substitute for the first team on one occasion last season, has plenty of role models in the dressing room to help him, including boss Jim Bentley, who operated at the heart of the defence during his playing days.

Bell said: “Chris McCready’s a great pro.

“He works hard in training every day and is a good role model to have.

“And obviously there’s the gaffer who’s been a good centre half and he’s there everyday in training and has showed me some things.

“It really helps. He was great in the air as a player and so I had some tips of him last season. He showed me some techniques and ways of doing things.

“It’s nice to have your manager as a centre half because he knows what you’re going through in the game.”
