Beeley: League 2 can change so quickly

The Shrimps host second in the table Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday having ended a run of three league defeats at Southend last time out.

It means Jim Bentley’s side are fifth after an impressive start to the season but Beeley knows anything can happen in League 2.

The right back said: “We probably weren’t expected to be this high but we’re taking every game as it comes.

“I don’t think you can say we’re going to finish in the play-offs or we’re going to finish down the bottom because this league can change so quickly.

“With a couple of results you can go seven or eight places down or up to second or third.

“Hopefully we’ll put in more good performances and we’ll see where we are come January.”

Beeley had an eventful night at Bury on Tuesday night in the Shrimps’ Johnstone’s Paint Trophy exit, being penalised for handball as the hosts took the lead from the penalty spot before giving the Shrimps a lifeline in the second half with his first goal for the club.

On the 3-1 defeat, the 25-year-old said: “It was disappointing.

“In the second half I thought we were the better side and had plenty of opportunities, especially Ryan’s (Williams) free-kick hitting the post.

“With the penalty it was really difficult because the ball came from behind Ryan (Edwards) and the guy was in one against one with Barry (Roche).

“I had to attempt to block the shot but as I slid in he miscued it and the wetness of the pitch meant I kept sliding.

“The ball’s hit my arm and I couldn’t have moved it but I had to try and block.

“It’s one of those things, it wasn’t intentional but I couldn’t move my arm.”

Beeley was pleased to get on the scoresheet however, even if it isn’t a big part of his role in the side.

He said: “Podge (Padraig Amond) waited for the right chance to pass and a took it inside and put it in the bottom corner.

“I think I could score more but I’ll take each one as it comes .

“If I can score more I will but if not I’ll hopefully chip in with a few assists.”

As for this Saturday, Beeley is confident the Shrimps can make it back-to-back wins at the Globe Arena despite never having beaten Wycombe in 10 attempts.

He said: “Records go out of the window week in, week out, so we’ve got to approach the game the same way we did at Southend.

“We need to attack them, and I think if we go out how we did at Southend we stand every chance of winning this game as well.”
