RESERVES manager Stewart Drummond took charge for the first time at Broughton but his Shrimps side went down to the Welsh Premier League side and really failed to create any real chances on the night.
He named some of the first teamers who missed a start against Derby on Friday night and also included some of the younger lads as well.
The Shrimps went behind in the 37th minute in a scrappy affair when a through ball split the defenders Cowperthwaite and Culshaw, and the unmarked Iain Sheridan hit a long range shot which found the top corner of the net.
Morecambe failed to test the Airbus ’keeper in the first half with no shots on target and were looking for a better performance in the second half.
Joe Culshaw came closest to a chance in the 56th minute when his long range effort from 40 yards wasn’t too far away.
Andrew Fleming headed just wide prior to his substitution and that was as close as Morecambe got at that stage.
Midfielder Joe McGee went close from close range and Salmon had a volley well saved by the keeper but they couldn’t find an equaliser.
Neil Wainwright, who has been released by the Shrimps, played to get some match practice as the club is helping him out with his fitness. James Short, who played a full 90 minutes, is a second year academy lad.
Morecambe: Routledge, Culshaw, Short, Cowperthwaite, Parrish, Fleming (Salmon 75), Parkinson, McGee, Alessandra (Joyce 75), Breen, Wainwright
Subs: Jones, Bannister, Joyce, Parker, Salmon, Edwards
