Darts: Lancaster’s win over Farnworth secures promotion

In a thrilling finale to the 2014-15 season Lancaster’s Super League darts team secured promotion to the Premier Division .

Up against top of the table Farnworth Central, who had established an unassailable lead, Lancaster started the day knowing that a draw would be enough to dash Halliwell’s outside chances of overtaking them.

Lancaster lost the first set before Matty Raby, Phil Raby and Chris Stobbart all won then Farnworth pulled one back. Jordan Robson, Michael Gladstone and Paul Osmotherley dug in to secure a 6-4 win.

The season began back in August with a trip to Castleton which Lancaster won comfortably 7-3 before drawing with Halliwell. They then beat Bury Town 7-3 and drew at home to Todmorden before returning to winning ways with a 7-3 win over Little Hulton Borough.

Lancaster suffered their first defeat against Farnworth Central and drew against Castleton before beating Halliwell 6-4. Lancaster then beat Bury Town, 7-3 and Todmorden 6-4. Lancaster tasted defeat for only the second time in the season at the hands of Littleboro 6-4. The club were indebted to the tireless efforts of captain Chris Stobbart who has held the team together through good times and bad.
