The young cyclists have been straight back into the thick of the action racing on three consecutive Saturdays in Southport as part of the tough Dolan Series.

At Youth A, 14 to 16-year-old level, George Wharton rode strongly to fight his way to two fine second places.

Amy Monkhouse rode consistently well to finish second overall in the Youth B, 12 to 14-year-old, series.

In the Youth C category, ages 10 to 12, Adam Hodgson and Tilly Percy also rode consistently to finish fourth and fifth overall respectively.

After a hard winter’s training the Cog Set Juniors, 16 to 18 years of age, are also back in action, riding the Winter Warrior Race series at Salt Ayre alongside adult riders.

They have also made the big step up to racing on open roads.

Toby Carway and Conor Jardine battled a high-quality field and Arctic conditions during the Clayton Velo Spring Classic in Clitheroe, and Jonny Wong a wild, wet and windy Capernwray Road Race that included many elite senior riders.

At Cog Set’s home of Salt Ayre, Saturday morning and Monday evening training sessions are now underway.

Many of the Club’s riders are taking part in the weekly Thursday evening time trials around the track, which got off to an earlier start than usual this year thanks to new floodlighting.

Cog Set is also hosting Round 1 in a series of six North West Youth League events on Saturday, April 11, and a 14-week Wednesday night series of youth racing gets going on April 15.
