The visitors posted 161-2 after winning the toss with Torrisholme coming agonisingly close, being bowled out for 159 as they came up two runs short.

After Joe Gibbins removed both Stephen Rutter (0) and Ollie Lomax (14) at the top of the order captain Josh Cunliffe (76 not out) and veteran Graham Green (66 not out) batted through the remainder of the 45 overs.

The Torrisholme attack toiled away without captain Matt Jackson with Gibbins finishing with 2-37 from his 12 overs.

The hosts’ reply started well enough with Andy Butler (38) and Daniel Woods (70) making runs at the top of the order.

But after the opening pair only stand-in skipper Chris Parry (16) made double figures with the innings subsiding to 159 all out.

Khalid Valimulla did the damage for Fold as he took 6-24 from 12 overs.

Torrisholme’s defeat means they slipped out of the second promotion place with Eccleston leapfrogging them. Vernon Carus top the table.
