Morecambe look to extend lead at top of Northern Premier League

Josh Dixon’s men battled to a losing draw at reigning champions Blackpool last time out and next host Netherfield this Saturday, July 4.

The opening batsman said: “As skipper I’m chuffed to bits to be top with a game in hand, it’s a wonderful situation to be in.

“We are looking a lot more professional as a side and are doing things well on and off the field.

“We must look to continue that momentum if we want to stay where we are come September.”

At Stanley Park, where the Woodhill Lane men lined up against former pro Kelly Smuts who acted as a stand in for Blackpool, Morecambe finished on 150-9 chasing 177 to win.

The skipper said: “It was an interesting one lining up against Kelly.

“Ultimately he was just doing his job but a strange on all the same.

“Both parts had to be fully professional but Kelly is a top player and you want to play against the best guys.

“Probably because of the situation we got ourselves in it was points dropped.

“It’s not all bad though because even after yesterday’s results we stayed top.

“It was still frustrating to come up just short.”

Netherfield’s visit to Woodhill Lane will see Morecambe attempt to extend their lead at the top.

Dixon said: “It’s another tough game of cricket against an in-form side.

“There are no easy games particularly second half when everyone is scrapping for points.”
