Winning the toss skipper Irfan Qayyum asked Barrow to bat first on an excellent looking strip at Woodhill Lane.

Morecambe’s opening bowlers enjoyed early success with Sean Graves (1-14) removing the dangerous Peter Deeks for just five, while Qayyum (1-12) accounted for Tom Penny for eight.

Despite resistance from Jordan Nicholson (48) the returning Uzair Shah (2-32) chipped in with two wickets clean bowled.

Adam Derham (5-18) had bowled well in his first six overs, however with removal of Studt for nine and quickly followed by Nicholson the Barrow innings subsided quickly.

With 14-year-old debutant George Marshall (1-11) capturing his first northern league victim, Derham cleaned up the rest of the innings at the other end, leaving Barrow with just 105.

Morecambe’s reply started calmly and it was a surprise when Derham was bowled for 20 with the score on 61.
