Morecambe’s undefeated Wesgate Warrior will face Southern Area champion Jamie Speight for the vacant English featherweight title at the First Direct Arena in Leeds on September 5.

The clash is on the undercard of Josh Warrington’s WBC International and Commonwealth title defences against Australia’s Joel Brunker live on Sky Sports in front of a packed house of 12,000 fans.

It represents a step up in class and occasion for Lowe who has spent the majority of a his 10-0 career campaigning on small hall shows around the North West.

The 21-year-old said: “Of course it’s going to be pressure but I thrive off pressure, I love it.

“Boxing on small hall shows and then going onto something big like this of course it’s different but it’s something I’ll adapt to and enjoy.”

The fight represents a second chance for Lowe to capture the English title having been denied the opportunity back in April after opponent Lee Glover failed to make weight.

He did pick up a fringe International Masters title but has his eyes on bigger prizes knowing victory would make him the first person from the Lancaster and Morecambe area to win a national professional title in more than 30 years.

Lowe, who is based at Coastal ABC on West End Road for his training with coach Bob Howard, said: “I’m buzzing.

“It’s my second chance at a title I should have won in April but Lee Glover couldn’t make the weight and I won a Masters belt.

“Now it’s all about the English belt I’ve been dreaming of and making history and bringing a major title back to the town.”

It is hoped that the fight will be screened live on Sky with some of the industry’s biggest names and a vociferous crowd set to be on hand on the night.

Lowe said: “Either way it’s going to be filmed so I’ll be on TV one way or another.

“(Matchroom promoter) Eddie Hearn’s going to be there, there will be some big-name boxers and I’m going to be fighting in front of 12,000 people.

“Just being on the undercard with that atmosphere alone is going to be great.”

Lowe has shared a ring with opponent Speight in the past in sparring.

The Devon man is 13-7 as a pro but according to most observers is better than his record suggests having shared a ring with Warrington in an unsuccessful bid for the English featherweight crown back in 2013.

Despite being more experienced, Lowe believes he has enough to hurt and defeat Speight on his big night next month.

The Morecambe puncher said: “He’s a good technical boxer.

“He’s a bit better than his record suggests but I’m far too big and too strong for him.

“The only gameplan he’s got is to run at me for 12 rounds and I’ll catch him and when I catch him I’ll hurt him.”

Lowe is having some top-class preparation ahead of fighting on the biggest of stages.

The Morecambe featherweight has been sharing the ring with World and European Champions including Warrington and McDonnell twins Jamie and Gavin.

Lowe said: “I’m mixing it with top, world-class people.

“As you can see there’s no marks on me so I’m doing okay.”

Due to Warrington’s immense popularity in Leeds Lowe only has limited tickets available for his September 5 date.

He however hopes people from the district will turn out to support one of their own as he bids to make history.

Lowe said: “It’s going to be great for an area like Lancaster and Morecambe to have a home town boy bringing belts back here.

“I can’t do it by myself.

“I’ve got a team behind me led by Bob and I hope everyone starts supporting me.

“At some stage of these fights things are going to get tough and if I’ve got a few people down there supporting me that will really help me out.”

A coach will be running from Lancaster and Morecambe for the fight. For tickets call Lowe’s trainer Bob Howard on 07951 191717.
