Split decision win for Varey

On Saturday night in Manchester a Skerton Boxing Club had a championship bout of their own as Shaun Michael Varey (15) fought in the semi final of the Junior NW Championship against Charlie Turner (16) of Sharpstyle ABC of Blackpool.

Shaun Michael landed the cleaner harder shots in the first round, pushing the Blackpool boxer onto the backfoot.

The second round was just as frenetic with both boxers standing toe to toe with Turner landing some good shots in the first minute and Varey commanding the second minute.

In the third round the Skerton boxer landed a right hand to Turners head that sent him spiralling across the ring and into the ropes and Varey saw his opportunity to capitalise.

At the end of the fight it was announced as a split decision but it was given in favour of the Skerton boxer.

Shaun Michael now progresses to the NW Final to take place in Manchester this coming Saturday.
