A Skerton ABC fighter is through to a national semi-final.

Andre Vidal Junior was victorious on Saturday in his last eight contest and heads to Birmingham on Sunday as he looks to make further progress.

Vidal Junior stopped the previously undefeated Roman Price of Chesterfield Boxing Club with a stunning second round knockout.

The Morecambe-based club’s fighter started in explosive fashion landing a right early in the contest which damaged Price’s nose and was checked on by the ringside doctor.

Vidal forced a standing eight count before the round was out and in round two landed another right that resulted in a second count.

The doctor allowed the Chesterfield fighter to continue but there was no let-up from Vidal who felled Price who couldn’t beat the count.

There were mixed fortunes on the night for Skerton as Robert Dugdale lost out on a split decision in his quarter-final.

The national quarter-finals capped a busy week for the club.

In Liverpool last Wednesday night Shaun Michael Varey lost out to a hometown boxer on a split decision with a rematch immediately set for this Thursday in Kirkham.

Also on Merseyside Matthew Doey was a unanimous points winner in his contest.

On Friday the club had seven fighters in action on the Kingscote ABC show at The Imperial Hotel in Blackpool.

There were wins for juniors Frank Varey, John Dugdale, Nelson Birchall and Lucas Cheney early in the night.

Jordan Alston was the first senior through the ropes for the club in his first bout.

After a committed display Jordan lost a split decision to an experienced home fighter.

Sean Coxon got Skerton back to winning ways with another unanimous victory before super heavyweight prospect completed a fine night for the club with a unanimous decision win in his fourth fight for the club.
