Lowe: It’s down to me if I make it or not

Unbeaten featherweight Isaac Lowe returns to the ring in Blackburn this Saturday night, November 22, looking to put a difficult few months behind him.

The 20-year-old went as far as to consider quitting the sport but after splitting with good friend Tyson Fury’s camp led by the heavyweight’s uncle and trainer Peter Fury, Lowe is now back with his first promoter Steve Wood and is being helped by one of boxing’s fastest-rising trainers Jamie Moore.

“I just want to get back in the ring and do what I do best, knock people out,” said Lowe, who moved to 8-0 as a professional with victory over Andy Harris back in May.

“It feels like it’s been a very long year.

“It started off well with Team Fury and then the tragic death of Hughie Fury was a real blow to everyone.

“Peter was running backwards and forwards to the hospital so Tyson was doing bits of training with me but eventually I had to split from Peter because he had a lot going on.

“I wasn’t training, I was retired and then I wasn’t retired, I didn’t have clue what I was doing. My head was up my backside to be honest.

“Now Jamie Moore’s doing a bit of training with me for this fight and hopefully after it too.”

Lowe believes Moore, who works with the likes of Hull lightweight Tommy Coyle, world middleweight contender Matthew Macklin and others, is the man who take him to the top.

“Look what he’s done with Tommy Coyle,” said Lowe, a former Lancaster Boxing Academy fighter.

“He’s been with Matthew Macklin and has a few lads coming through.

“I hope Jamie does take me on full-time because he was a British and European Champion who fought like I do - a come forward fighter.

“After learning things from Bob, Peter and others if I can learn stuff from him I guarantee I’ll make a champion.

“It’s for me to chuck away. If I don’t make it it’s my own fault.

“If I put my training in, dig in and work hard I know I can be a British champion sooner rather than later.”

The resort prospect is grateful to promoter Wood, of VIP Promotions, for taking him back with Lowe admitting he made a mistake in seeking pastures new.

“Some people wouldn’t have had me back,” he said.

“I jumped the gun thinking I was going to get big fights but it doesn’t work like that.”

“Steve’s been great with me though, looking after me, getting me the right fights.

“I won’t leave Steve now, I’ll always be with him. Not many people give you second chances.”

“I need to pay him back because he’s put faith in me.”

As well as working with Moore at the VIP gym in Astley, Manchester, Lowe has been keeping sharp at the Skerton and Coastal ABC gyms in Morecambe.

More than anything he is determined to bring success to the district after a challenging few months.

“It’s been tough. I’ve only had two fights this year after having six in no time at all,” said Lowe.

“Look at Tyson, look at every boxer, it happens. I’ve got to put it behind me now.

“It was a test, being a boxer you have your ups and downs. I’ve got to take the good with the bad, get this year done, get two fights in hopefully and I know by the end of next year I’ll have some kind of belt round my waist.

“That’s the plan. It’s not just for me. I want to bring success to the town.”
