A Skerton ABC fighter will fight for the right to be number one in England this weekend.
Andre Vidal Junior heads to the Isle of Sheppey, Kent, this Saturday, December 13, for the Class A 66kg final of the England Boxing Junior Novice Championships.
Victory at Merlin’s Nightclub, Leysdown, would see the 15-year-old Morecambe Community High School pupil become a golden gloves champion as the top ranked fighter for his weight and age in the country and see him selected for the England squad.
Vidal Junior booked his final berth with a unanimous points victory over Bobby Hendry from Leeds’ Burmantofts Boxing Club in Clowne, Derbyshire, on Sunday.
The Skerton fighter showed his superior strength and ability from the opening bell before stepping up the pace in round two.
Vidal Junior landed some heavy shots as the crowd cheered the fighter from the Morecambe-based club to the final bell.
A flurry of unanswered shots in the final round looked like they might end the contest early but the Leeds fighter hung on.
The decision was a formality however as Vidal Junior’s hand was raised to set up a big fight for the Skerton youngster this Saturday.
Last Saturday Skerton also had three boxers representing the club in Leigh.
Reece Mills won a split decision against a very tough opponent, Sean Coxon was a unanimous winner against another Leigh boxer and Jamie Proctor won a split decision.
