Skerton Amateur Boxing Club have been honoured by the sport’s ruling body at the end of a fantastic season.
The club finished their year on a high with six new North West belt holders, a feat that has been recognised with an outstanding achievement award from Boxing England.
Skerton have outshone bigger clubs from Manchester, Preston, Blackburn and beyond to pick up the award with Andre Vidal Jnr, Mathew Doey, Martin Baird, Lewis Dennison, Niall Fielding and Marcin Lewicki all recently winning regional title fights at the end of an excellent season.
The club finished with a 90 per cent win ratio with recent victories for Lucas Cheney, Reece Mills, Baird, Doey and Vidal Jnr on a show in Wigan, Baird, Dennison, Doey and Mills in Kendal and Jamie Proctor, Dinny Kelly, John Kelly, Lewicki and Mills in Leigh.
Dinny also reached the National Minors final earlier in the season with Lewis Marshall and Shaun Michael Varey getting to the semi-finals of the National Schoolboys.
Doey and Dennison also reached the semi-finals of the Junior Championships with Vidal Jnr reaching the final.
Steven Douglas and Martin Baird have also been picked to represent an England select squad that are boxing in Wales against an RAF squad next week.
Coaches John Varey and Paul Fielding have also been honoured by Boxing England with Paul becoming a qualified judge while currently undertaking a refereeing course, and John has received an outstanding achievement award.
When the new season kicks off in September boxers from the club will be showcasing their skills in the National Senior Championships with the likes of Sean Coxon, Jamie Proctor, Carl Whyte, Steven Douglas, Martin Baird, Marcin Lewicki, Johnjo Varey and Niall Fielding hoping to impress.
