Blackburn retook the lead when their prop wheeled rouns to score a try but on the stroke of half time Carnforth were awarded a penalty 20 metres out.

Dan Blenkharn took a quick tap and fed to Short, the number eight burst through the defence to level the scores at the interval.

Carnforth needed a good start to the second half and they got it when Blenkharn took the restart cleanly – the ball came out to flanker Brad Wheatman who from half way went down the flank before cutting back inside to score a fine solo try, Bowers converting.

Five minutes later and Harrison, Wheatman and Shane Weed all got involved before skipper Blenkharn was able to finish with a powerful surge for the line and a try and a 12 point lead.

Blackburn would not lie down with John Greenland, Darren Winning, Dave Hones, Phil Metcalfe, Kevin Hardy and Matti Davenport all putting in excellent work to prevent the hosts from scoring.

Hones and Greenland continued to link in the line-outs, Donald Haddow combined well with stand off Hardy as Carnforth looked to kill the game off.

Harrison and Tomlinson in the centres linked well and once they had broken up a Blackburn attack it was full back Bowers who took the ball away to score after running the ball in from half way.

Blackburn play their rugby hard but fair but tensions were high as Harrison received 10 minutes on the sidelines.
