Athletics: Stanley steps up and claims fourth place

Three athletes from Lancaster and Morecambe AC travelled to the Northern U17 Athletics Championships in Middlesborough at the weekend.

Under 15 boy James Stanley moved up an age group to compete in the 800m and finished fourth in an outstanding time of 1:59.65, setting a new club record.

Tobias Swarbrick, 11, also moved up an age group and entered the U15 boys’ race – despite the fact that all the other boys in the race were about to start school Years 9 and 10.

Tobias, who has just left primary school, finished an outstanding ninth and set a new PB of 4:57.48 in the 1,500m.

Freddie Pearson competed for the first time at this level and finished fourth in his 100m heat and 11th in the 800m. He also gained valuable experience in the long jump.
