Twelve pairs enjoyed an afternoon of tennis doubles on the newly-refurbished courts and appreciated the much-improved surface and landscaping around the courts.

Names were drawn out of the hat, and eight pairs played five matches - each with eight games.

This format is a great way to give players a chance to play and socialise with most of those in the tournament.

At the semi-finals stage, a normal set is played, up to six games and very competitive matches were played between Paddy Maher and junior Dan Main and Chris Bowe and Paul Darwent.

In the other semi-final, coach Eden Parkinson and junior Joe Hester took on junior Elliot Gardner and Derek Metcalfe.

After these tough sets, the final was fought between Chris and Paul, and Elliot and Derek.

This turned out to be a battle of the left handers, and after long, hard rallies, Chris and Paul emerged the winners, 6-2.

All players enjoyed the games and look forward to lots more tennis over the winter and into the start of the spring season on the club’s new courts.
