Winning food and drink producers in record-breaking Great Taste awards

Stars of the food and drink world have been honoured in the 2020 Great Taste awards that attracted a record-breaking 12,777 entries from 106 countries.

The awards, run by The Guild of Fine Food, provide a much-needed boost for producers during the run-up to the Christmas period.

Of the entries, 42% were awarded a Great Taste accolade of 3 star, 2 star or 1 star.

Extraordinarily tasty food earned 3-star awards for 205 producers; food that is above and beyond delicious resulted in 2-star awards for 1,294 producers and fare that delivers fantastic flavour saw 1-star awards going to 3,818 producers.

Awards tally

These are the results:

London-based food and drink producers won 939 awards

South-East England scooped 679 awards

Northern England picked up 459 awards

South-West England’s producers achieved 441 awards

Ireland won 396 awards with Northern Ireland attracting 172 awards.

Midlands scooped 381 awards

Scotland-based producers picked up 294 awards

East Anglia achieved 272 awards

Wales won 198 awards.

The awards, which have been held for 27 years, enable recipients to display the gold and black Great Taste logo on their winning products.

This year’s winners are now waiting with bated breath to see who will scoop the top award for their region. These final honours, including the Great Taste 2020 Supreme Champion, will be announced at the virtual Great Taste Golden Fork Awards in late October.

Judges for the awards included food critics, chefs, restaurateurs, retail buyers, cooks, producers and a host of food writers, journalists and social media influencers

Among the 144 judges were cook, writer and champion of sustainable food, Melissa Hemsley, cook, writer, stylist and voice of modern vegetarian cooking, Anna Jones, celebrated Spanish chef, José Pizarro, Kavi Thakrar from Dishoom, food writer and cook, Xanthe Clay, and baker and author, Martha Collison, as well as food buyers from Selfridges, Fortnum & Mason and Waitrose.
