Sainsbury’s is recalling mussels due to salmonella contamination

Sainsbury’s is recalling its frozen by Sainsbury’s Cooked Mussels due to being contaminated with salmonella.

The bacteria has been found in some of the products in a particular batch, with customers who purchased the mussels warned not to consume them.

Which batch is affected?

The affected product is by Sainsbury’s Cooked Mussels, found in the supermarket’s frozen section.

The product has the batch code 2653152 and comes in a pack size of 300g, with a best before date of 8 September 2021.

Symptoms of salmonella poisoning

If you consume food that has been contaminated by salmonella, you will start to feel unwell within around 12 to 36 hours after.

Symptoms typically include:

These symptoms usually clear within three to seven days of eating the food that caused the infection.

Advice for customers

Sainsbury’s has confirmed that salmonella has only been found in this particular batch and no other code dates have been affected.

Customers who purchased any of the recalled mussels are being asked not to consume them. Instead, the pack should be returned to the store where it was bought for a full refund.

The supermarket also said that point of sales notices will be displayed in all retail stores which stock the food item.
