The former staff member, who worked at a London branch while studying at university, told the Leicester Mercury some of the company’s closest guarded secrets. Nando’s has since confirmed that its chips are indeed the McCain frozen variety.

Specific recipe

Although McCain also makeover chips that any of us can buy in the supermarket, the chain insists its chips are slightly different.

“Our hugely popular chips are developed in partnership with McCain Food Services and the specific recipe is exclusive to Nando’s,” a spokesperson told BBC Newsbeat.

“They aren’t the same as their grocery products such as oven chips,” they said.

Major supplier

Nando’s isn’t the only highstreet food supplier to use McCain, it turns out. The potato company also supplies Burger King and McDonald’s,according to reports.

Each year McCain buys a huge 15 per cent of the total potato crop in the UK from 300 farms across the country.
