Regarding Nick Lakins report – Traffic Vision for the Prom (March 24).

I applaud the vision “a place for people, not vehicles”.

Yes to the suggestion that vehicles will be directed away from parts of Marine Road.

Yes to the proposal for lowering the speed limit on the prom and putting in vehicle restrictions to prevent HGVs from using the seafront to get to the A6.

I suggest going a bit further and tackle the probable scenario of Morecambe bound traffic leaving the M6 at junction 35 Carnforth when the Heysham/M6 link road is opened.

It seems to me that unless a weight limit restriction is put in place at the M6 exit to the A6 then HGVs travelling from the north will continue to access Morecambe through Carnforth as at present.

Anyone that uses this route will know that delays are commonplace on the approach to and through Carnforth. Without introducing the proposed restriction on HGVs I suspect drivers will prefer the scenic route along the seafront.
