Young Lancaster cadet awarded highest honour

Seventeen-year-old Daniel Wade has been awarded the prestigious appointment of Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet in the Lancashire Army Cadet Force.

The certificate was presented to Cadet Company Sergeant Major Wade by the Lord Shuttleworth KCVO, Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire, at a ceremony at Lancaster Town Hall.

The accolade means Daniel now holds the position of Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet for Lancashire.

Daniel joined at the age of 12 and has risen through the ranks ever since – he was promoted to sergeant when he was 16-years-old and appointed Company Sergeant Major when he was 17.

As a senior cadet, he laid a wreath during the Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate in Ypres as part of the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment World War I commemorations.

A keen sportsman, Daniel also conducted training sessions for an under-12 youth football team and now referees games most Sundays in the Lancaster and Morecambe 11-17 Youth League.

Daniel said: “This award is the most prestigious you can achieve as a cadet. Achievements such as this are the whole reason why I joined the Army Cadet Force.”

Daniel was among six cadets from across the North West and the Isle of Man to be awarded the appointment.
