Morecambe is famous for its View and we don’t just mean the stunning sight of the Lakeland Hills over the bay.
Because now a local business called The View has achieved success in its own right after being crowned The Visitor Café of the Year.
The View beat other Morecambe cafes to the title of Café of the Year and manager Marilyn Blackburn could not have been more delighted when we broke the news.
“I’m absolutely over the moon,” said Marilyn.
“I can’t believe that it’s happened. I didn’t think we would win, because of the other cafés that have opened and ones that have been established for years.
“We want to say a big thank youto all our customers who have supported us over the past two years and the friends who have helped us achieve this success.
The View is located on Marine Road Central opposite the jaw-dropping big bay views and Marilyn said this has helped put the café on the map.
“A lot of it is to do with the atmosphere we’ve got in here. We have regular customers, we’re friendly and like to have a bit of banter with holidaymakers who come back. We’ve got that fantastic view outside and we play a lot of 60s music, and it’s like a trip back in time for the older people.”
The View is a family business as Marilyn’s husband Pete Nelson, a well-known local musician, and other relatives are also involved.
Second place in our Café of the Year went to The Sandwich Bar on Queen Street. Rita’s Café on Marine Road Central came third.
Thank you to everyone who voted.
