The trustees of a charity set up by the will of a wealthy resident have met to award grants to local good causes.

The Elizabeth & Richard Wilson Charitable Fund was set up by the will of Richard Wilson, a “very private man” who was 87 years old when he died in February 2004.

His estate was worth approximately £1,000,000 and was used to set up a trust fund to award grants to organisations and individuals based in Lancaster, Morecambe and Carnforth and the surrounding rural areas..

Gary Rycroft, a partner in Joseph A Jones & Co, Solicitors, Lancaster, who is Clerk to the Trustees, said: “Mr Wilson directed in his Will that 10% of the income arising from the Trust Fund should go to the upkeep of the graveyard at Warton Parish Church, 10% to Warton Methodist Church and 10% to Warton Parish Council to award educational grants to young people.

“The remaining 70% is available to the Church of England and Methodist Churches, young people to develop their physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing, schools to award scholarships and bursaries for children under the age of 18 years and to the Scout Guides or similar charitable youth groups in the wider district”.

Application forms for grant applications for 2014, which have to be submitted by November 30, 2013, can be obtained from Joseph A Jones & Co, Solicitors, 6 Fenton Street, Lancaster tel: 01524 63371.
