Westgate win after bowling Shireshead out for just 104

Westgatesecured an excellent 60 run win over Shireshead on Saturday in their Westmorland Cricket League clash.

Andy Hill chose to bat first and Westgate made 164 all out thanks to Khan Puffett (52), Craig Buchanan (32) and Jack Huntington (27). I Quyuum took excellent figures of 8-66 for the visitors.

In reply, Shireshead were all out for 104, with Dave Jack the only meaningful contributor with 33.

Dylan Conroy took 6-46 and Zak Buchanan took 4-44.

Westgate seconds travelled to Shireshead and were also victorious, winning by seven wickets.

Shireshead chose to bat first and despite a slow start reached 53-1 thanks to Liam Burns (23) and Jake Gould (28).

They then collapsed to 85 all out with Abdul and Dacs both claiming 3-14.

Westgate took their time in response, but knocked it off comfortably with only three down.

Skipper Dave Hannigan was unbeaten on 26.

On Sunday, Westgate travelled to Sedgwick in the T20 semi-final.

Sedgwick batted first and made 162 thanks to 52 from Mike Robinson and a quick 26 from Chris Evans. Dacs finished with 2-20.

In reply the visitors stumbled to 84all out.

Rob Olde top scored with 19 as Hansen claimed 3-14 for the home side.

The Under-13s got back to winning ways with a 25 run victory over Heysham at home.

Westgate made 151 thanks to Jim Craig (28 not out), Sam Hayward (26 not out) and Arjun Manjare (28 not out).

Heysham kept it close, scoring 125 thanks to O Whatmuff and J Butler both retiring but Westgate held on the make it four wins from six.

Meanwhile, the Westgate Under-11s team was much weakened by injuries, holidays and a wedding but arguably put in their best performance in their final league game of the season.

Batting first, Lawson Carr with Joseph Jones and Rayaan Hussain put on a steady 23, this was followed by Jack Edwards and Harry Winder who added 25.

The biggest partnership was by skipper Nathan Allen and Harry Miller with 29 which left a pleasing total of 304 to defend.

The total was defended with spirit and tenacity with some wonderful fielding, catching and bowling.

Wickets were claimed by Jack Edwards (3), George Abel (2), Lawson Carr (2), Jack Johnson (2), Harry Winder (1) and Jack Liptrot (1) with Finley McPartlin also bowling two tidy overs.

The fielding was led by the sublime Nathan Allen from behind the stumps with some cracking catches from George, Jack Johnson, Lawson and as usual, Harry Miller.

Torrisholme Blue were 235 with four overs left – a spirited stand of 37 by Jake Rigby and Dylan Jackson lifted the reply to 272.

Dave Murphy’s Westgate team therefore made it seven consecutive wins as they became Southern Section Champions and await a date to play against Sedgwick, the Northern Section champions, for the overall League championship.

Their success will soon be added to the club honours board.

This coming week sees the first team travel to Milnthorpe, while the seconds face Coniston at home, looking to rise further up the table.

The 19s are due to face Netherfield at home on Friday night, the 16s are due to travel to Shireshead for their final game of the season on Wednesday and the 13s finish their league season at Morecambe on Thursday 
night.
