Voters will go to the polls to elect a new Lancaster city councillor for Westgate on Thursday, October 13.

The vacancy came about after Councillor David Smith resigned this week.

Coun Smith, who was elected in 2011, decided to stand down to return to his native Yorkshire.

Anyone who is interested in standing as a candidate should telephone the elections office on 01524 582915.

The closing date for nominations is 4pm on Friday, September 16.

To vote in this election, new applications to register need to be made by Tuesday, September 27. Registering is really easy to do - go online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

Completing the application takes no more than a few minutes.
