West End parking plea

THERE may be light at the end of the tunnel for strugling traders in the West End of Morecambe.

Lancaster City Council will look into building a car park on Parliament Street with the aim of attracting more shoppers into the area.

This came after a West End councillor made an impassioned plea to fellow politicians at last Wednesday’s council budget meeting.

Coun Janice Hanson said the council had “made a mistake” by spending half a million pounds to pedestrianise Yorkshire Street three years ago because the improvement works had been counterproductive.
