A spokesman for Morecambe Area Police said: “Please be extra vigilant and take every precaution to ensure that your property is as safe as it can be.

“Ensure your windows and doors are locked at all times.

“When you are in the property lock your external doors as burglary offences are often committed whilst residents are in.

“If you are out in the evenings leave a light on in at least one of your rooms.

“If you are going away for a period of time, have someone regularly check the property to ensure that signs such as a build-up of mail do not advertise your absence.
