Voters to choose new Lancaster and Carnforth councillors on May 5

Voters will also have the chance to choose a Police and Crime Commissioner to represent the police service in Lancashire.

Following the death of Labour city and county Coun Richard Newman-Thompson in February, there are vacant seats for Lancaster East on the county council and John O’ Gaunt ward on Lancaster City Council.

For Lancaster East, Lizzi Collinge will stand for the Labour Party, Tim Hamilton-Cox will stand for the Green Party, Robin Long will stand for the Liberal Democrats, and Steve Metcalfe will stand for the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition.

For John O’ Gaunt, James Cooke will stand for the Conservative Party, Bethany Frost will stand for the Liberal Democrats, Niall Semple will stand for the UK Independence Party, Paul Stubbins will stand for the Green Party, and Oscar Thynne will stand for the Labour Party.

The Carnforth and Mill Head seat on Lancaster City Council is also vacant following the death of Conservative Coun George Askew.

John Bassinder will stand for the Conservative Party, Phil Dunster will stand for the Liberal Democrats, Robert Gillespie will stand for the UK Independence Party, John Reynolds will stand for the Labour Party and Cait Sinclair will stand for the Green Party.

Four candidates are standing for the Police and Crime Commissioner role.

Current PCC Clive Grunshaw, from Fleetwood, will stand for the Labour Party, James Barker, from Penwortham, will represent the UK Independence Party, Andy Pratt, from South Ribble, will stand for the Conservative Party, and Graham Roach, from Colne, will stand for the Liberal Democrats.
