The sun and Eric Morecambe smiled down on a soldier as he completed a 123 mile run for a very good cause.

Private Scott Farmer was greeted by a rapturous crowd of well-wishers at the Eric Morecambe statue as he finished a coast-to-coast run from Scarborough to Morecambe in aid of Help for Heroes.

Scott, from Nether Kellet and who serves with 381 Supply Squadron Royal Logistics Corps, Army Reserves, began the run at Scarborough Pier on Monday morning.

David Morris MP joined Scott and colleagues from Alexandra Barracks for the final five miles.

“It has been a challenge, it’s been painful and it’s certainly been a massive achievement,” said Scott.

“I kept on thinking what I was doing it for and it just kept me going straight through that brick wall and on to the next day.”

Scott said he now planned on having a hot bath, a rest and then he is going to start planning his next challenge.
