VIDEO: Emmerdale star Michael Parr switches on the Morecambe Christmas lights

Our roving Visitor Video camera was on hand to capture the sights and sounds of the Morecambe Christmas Lights Switch-On.

Emmerdale star Michael Parr, who plays bad boy Ross Barton in the ITV1 soap, flicked the switch in the Arndale shopping centre on Saturday afternoon with help from The Bay radio’s Tony ‘Cooky’ Cookson and Father Christmas.

As you can see, not everything went exactly to plan!

Parr then signed autographs and posed for photos before switching on the lights on Victoria Street later on in the evening.

The switch-on festivities began with a parade from the Winter Gardens car park led by Father Christmas, Michael Parr and stars of the upcoming ‘White Christmas’ show at the theatre.

It coincided with the weekend’s Dickensian Festival where there were stalls on Victoria Street, and fairground rides and live music on the Winter Gardens car park on Saturday and Sunday.

Our video gives a flavour of Saturday’s events and includes a magnificent rendition of The Shadows’ Apache by an old-style fairground organ!
