A plaque in tribute to Dame Thora Hird has been unveiled in Morecambe.
David Morris MP did the honours on Friday morning at the town’s JD Wetherspoon pub, calling it a “proud day for Morecambe”.
Dame Thora (1911-2003) was the town’s most famous daughter, appearing in numerous TV shows and films including Last of the Summer Wine and In Loving Memory.
As a large crowd of onlookers clapped and cheered, Mr Morris called the actress “a theatrical icon”.
She started her career at the old Royalty Theatre in Morecambe, not far from the Eric Bartholomew pub on Euston Road where the plaque can be seen.
The pub chain paid for the plaque and also a photographic tribute to Dame Thora inside the premises.
