US trip is a real Turning Point for talented kids

Turning Point Theatre Arts in Lancaster is gearing up to create a life-changing opportunity for 29 of its pupils, by taking them on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the USA.

The school, based on Lancaster Leisure Park, is run by Gail Johnstone, auntie to Holly Johnstone, finalist of TV’s celebrity gymnastics programme, Tumble.

Together they offer training in dance, gymnastics, acrobatics, theatre and aerial skills and will now take some of their little stars across the pond to further develop their abilities.

Heading to the entertainment capital of the world on July 30, the children – who will be accompanied by a handful of chaperones in the form of the pupils’ parents – will jet off to California from the UK.

Once there, they will be treated to an exciting line-up of dance and theatre-related activities, including the chance to perform on Hollywood Boulevard.

The children will be whisked off to Disneyland to perform on stage at Magic Kingdom, as well as enjoying two classes a day in dance and performing arts.

Making their way to various LA studios, they’ll also take part in lectures from industry professionals to get the full scoop on what it’s like to work in theatres including workshops and a mock audition.

Owner Gail Johnstone said “It is such a pleasure to be able to help my students onto the first stepping stone of their careers, or to simply bring enjoyment to their hobbies.

“Trips like these give the children so much more experience than I can give them in a classroom environment. We have been to Disneyland Paris with a group before, but never as far as America.

“After nearly two years of planning, I think some of the parents are just as excited as the children!”
