Thousands of Covid-19 vaccinations delivered across the Lancaster district, with more on the way

Medical practices across the Lancaster district have delivered thousands of vaccinations to patients over the past week.

Lancaster Medical Practice has given more than 3,500 vaccinations, while Ash Trees Surgery in Carnforth has administered around 1,300 vaccinations to people aged 80 years and over.

Dr David Wrigley, GP at Ash Trees Surgery, and Vice Chair of the British Medical Association, said that for every 100 patients in this age group to receive a vaccine, one life is saved.

"We'll have saved 13 lives these last three days," he said.

The surgery has used all of its 195 Pfizer vials, managing an extra sixth dose from almost every one.

Dr Wrigley said: "We’ve vaccinated around 1,300 over 80-year-old patients these last three days.

"We had many emotional patients and some tears of joy at the time of injection.

"Our roving Nurse Practitioner Lyn and supporter Debs have covered almost all of our local care homes too - vital priority work.

"We had brilliant support from Carnforth Rotary and Carnforth Town Council along with dozens of NHS staff.

"Our next delivery is due in a few days and we start vaccinating again straight away."

Lancaster Medical Practice described its staff as "amazing", and thanked them for their work over the last week.

A spokesperson said: "A huge thank you to all of our staff involved in COVID-19 vaccinations this week.

"You are amazing! We have now given over 3500 vaccinations!

"To everyone eagerly awaiting their jab, we will get to you as soon as we can – and you will be contacted directly to be invited to your appointment."

Lancaster Medical Practice has started to invite people for their vaccines via text message, and has provided an example of what this looks like so they can be sure it's genuine.

The Lancaster Guardian is today launching a campaign calling for the network of local pharmacies across the Bay area to be allowed to join the mass Covid-19 vaccine rollout effort.
