New wine bar Shackleton's gets ready to open in Bare

Chris Shackleton his partner Lizzie Banks, and Gill and Steve Briggs have gone into business together, with a view to bringing something "a little bit different" to Princes Crescent.

The bar is due to open on May 22 in the former Bobbins and Bows shop.

Chris, who has worked in catering for the last 20 years - including at Liverpool FC and Granada Studios - recently moved to Lancaster from Bolton, but has strong family connections to the area.

Steve, an electrician, and Gill, are well known members of the Bare community.

Chris said his family claim a very distant connection to Antarctic explorer Ernest Shackleton, hence the 'S' in a compass in some of the signage designs.

The bar, which will also serve tapas style plates and open during the day for coffee, will be able to cater for up to 44 people, with tables also planned for outside.

Chris said there is plenty of work to do before the opening in May, and that the business was looking forward to serving the community and complementing the other bars and pubs in the area.
