The Bay Limestone Round was devised by Tom Phillips during the coronavirus lockdown - who set out to prove you don't need to travel great distances to have a big adventure.

The first summit is Humphrey Head near Grange-over-Sands, and the last is Arnside Knott.

Every completion of the route raises money for charity through a certificate and inscription on a "Roll of Honour", for all those who complete the round either solo or in a relay.

Although none of the summits are over 1,000 feet the combined ascent is around 9,000 feet, and there are a few sections of tricky terrain, as well as some faster sections of trail running.

The trail starts at Kents Bank Railway Station and ends at Arnside Pier, and the summits are Humphrey Head, Hampsfell, Lord's Seat, Cunswick Scar, Scout Scar, Heversham Head, Farleton Knott, Hutton Roof Crags, Cringlebarrow, Heald Brow, King William's Hill and Arnside Knott.

Tom, 56, a part time time trail running and walking guide, part time web designer, said: "Some of the summits are quite obscure - many locals will never have visited the actual summit cairns of Cringlebarrow and Heald Brow!"

Tom ran the full route on June 5 to become the first person to complete the round as an individual in a time of 12 hours and 2 minutes.

Tom had a very serious cycling injury three years ago, suffering multiple injuries and resulting in major spinal surgery.

Sadly the friend he was cycling with on that day lost his battle with mental illness two years ago - and Tom's successful completion of the Bay Limestone Round raised over £850 for the charity CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably).
