Dr Knox, who regularly shares online videos about how individuals and families approach the coronavirus outbreak, and their health and wellbeing in general, said on social media that he was feeling "a bit stronger every day".

Earlier this month, Dr Knox was criticised by Morecambe MP David Morris and Lancashire County Councillor Charlie Edwards for the content of a video discussing how families might deal with family members or loved ones testing positive or falling ill as a result of COVID-19.

But GPs from across the country and patients at his surgery later rallied in support of Dr Knox, describing him as a "brilliant doctor", who broached the difficult subject of advanced care planning in a "caring, kind and thoughtful" way.

After testing positive for Covid-19 on April 10, Dr Knox said that he had also lost his sense of taste and smell, which he described as "really weird".

He said: "Today I tested positive for Covid-19.

"I’m feeling a great deal stronger than I did a couple of days ago, when I felt like I’d been hit by a bus!

"Just a hacking cough and no sense of taste or sense of smell.... bowled over by the love of family, friends and neighbours.

"In the meantime having some enforced rest and taking time to reflect, re-imagine and reset."
