Lancaster identical twins break records to become Britain's Strongest Men Under 80kg

Tim, who is Head of PE at Queen Katherine School in Kendal took the top spot, while his identical twin brother Joe, who teaches PE at Carnforth High School, finished in second place.

To fight for the title the brothers had to complete in eight events which saw Joe pull a World Record deadlift in the under 80kg category of 335kg.

Tim pressed an 85kg monster dumbbell and also loaded a World Record atlas stone weighing a massive 165kg.

Other events included throwing sandbags, a grip challenge holding onto a car and running with heavy frames and yokes and pressing a 110kg log for reps.

Tim said: "It was a really tough competition; the standard was really high with strong competition from across the whole of Britain

"So I am really proud of our achievement to come first and second in Britain's Strongest man under 80kg, we have trained hard for the past 3 to 4 years up to this moment.

"It is the best outcome we could have imagined.

"Now we shift our focus to November and preparing for world's strongest man under 80kg.

"That is going to be an incredible challenge for us to compete against the best under 80kg guys in the world.

"We will give it 100 per cent and we know we are going to have loads of people supporting us along the way.

"We go out to America together and to compete at worlds together will be very special."

Joe added: "To get a world record each in an eight event competition really capped off a great day.

"The deadlift record for me and the atlas stone record for Tim.

"We have had our eyes on the deadlift world record for a while now so it felt great to break it.

"Hopefully we will get chance to break it further again in the future, but our focus now is on working on any weaknesses and making sure we are consistent across all events.

"Tim's atlas stone world record was incredible though, over double body weight eight hours into a competition, and that ultimately secured him the win."

"To stand on the podium alongside your twin brother is a pretty awesome feeling. Even though strongman is an individual sport we feel like we work well as a team, alongside our coach Josh and other training partners.

"We train together, we help each other on comp day and I think that's a massive advantage for us.

"We just cannot wait to get back into training and to start working towards our next goals."

The competition was the biggest weight class strongman show the country has ever hosted, with sponsors from all around the world supporting the event.

The event was hosted by international under 105kg strongman Luke Davies and the current England's Strongest man under 90kg Josh Lancaster.

The first four events took place at Kaos Strength gym in Preston, before the top 10 battled it out for the final four events at Lean Body Strength club in Lancaster.

The twin brothers will now go onto compete at the Official Strongman Games World's Strongest Man Under 80kg in Daytona Beach, Florida this November.

There they will fly the flag for Britain and get the chance to compete against the best under 80kg strongmen in the world.
