Fifty volunteers offer help for vulnerable in Halton as country goes into lockdown

On March 23, Prime Minister Boris Johnson told the country not to go out unless absolutely necessary, in a bid to halt the spread of coronavirus.

In response, villages have been producing plans to help the most vulnerable in their community.

Carol Slinger, from Halton Parish Council, said: "The Parish Council and the Centre@Halton had a meeting and we felt that The Centre could be a hub for emergency contacts.

"If people feel vulnerable or are in need, they can get in touch.

"We have sent a flyer round to all the properties in the village, offering people help like collecting groceries, or walking the dog, and telling people how they can help.

"We're now in the process of putting together a spreadsheet as people get in touch, so we can match them up to volunteers who live quite close to them, so they'll know who to expect.

"We're keeping it all within the village, although we did get volunteers from further afield.

"There will be someone at The Centre, in Low Road, to coordinate it all.

"Obviously, people won't be going into people's houses, and will be instructed to keep their distance."
