A man threatening to self harm had to be rescued from the bay along with a police officer who went to assist him.

Morecambe’s RNLI hovercraft team were called out to assist the police at 6.05pm last night, Monday, to search for a man reported to be in danger.

The hovercraft was launched with a police officer on board and searched the area in the bay opposite Northumberland Street, said the coastguard.
They found the man and a police officer who had walked out to him approximately half a mile out from the promenade.

The hovercraft transferred him and the police officers safely to shore and the man was taken into police custody.

Police said the man was then taken to hospital.
