MORECAMBE’S world class TT racer has been honoured with an award from his home town.

John McGuinness was presented with the first recognition award by Morecambe Town Council last night in a ceremony in the foyer of Morecambe Town Hall.

Councillor David Kerr, chairman of the council, presented the award alongside Councillor Terrie Metcalfe.

Mr McGuinness was presented with an engraved crystal decanter and a framed scroll.

The motorbike star was given the award for his contribution to the sporting world and for being an ambassador for the people of Morecambe.

“Today is about Morecambe’s sense of community pride and paying tribute to a world class competitor and fellow Morecambrian,” said Coun Kerr.

Mr McGuinness, who is second on the all-time list of wins at the annual Isle of Man TT races, attended the ceremony with his fiancé, children and other family members.

After he was presented the award he thanked Morecambe Town Council for the honour, pledged his love for his home town of Morecambe and said a few words about his fantastic motorcycle racing career so far.
