A HAIRDRESSER, the Mayor of Bare and a midwife have come together to help save Morecambe’s Venus and Cupid statue.
Colin Brown, John McKenzie and Jean Anderson are on the board of trustees who will campaign to raise £10,000 to safeguard the sculpture’s future.
The other trustees are husband and wife Peter Brown and Sian Johnson, and former arts officer Jean Laurie.
They have set up the Venus and Cupid Arts Trust to raise money to pay for a licence so the “mother swinging her baby” can remain on Marine Road East.
The sculpture was under threat after the existing licence expired.
“We think we’re doing what the community wants and we are keeping it away from politics,” said Sian Johnson, spokesperson for the trust.
Members of the trust will have a stall at the Platform this Sunday (May 13) as part of the Kite Festival.
Anyone wishing to support them or become trustees is welcome to come along on the day to say hello.
Alternatively please call Sian or Peter on 01524 831600.
