Tribute paid after pensioner dies in Catterall collision

A family has paid tribute after a pensioner died in a road collision last week.

Motorist Angela Murphy, 77, from Forton, died along with her 76-year-old passenger afrer a crash on the A6 at Catterall.

Her family said: “Angela was a widow, who had cared for her husband at home for a number of years until his death three years ago.

“Although a quiet person she had many good friends in the area and was very well respected by everyone in the local community.

“She was a member of the ‘Forton Monday Club’ where she would meet other friends over refreshments and she was also a very active member of the local Scorton RC Church.

“She was a very charitable person and was always willing to help anyone wherever she could.

“She had previously worked as a clerk at Bolton Museum and enjoyed gardening, visiting historical houses and National Trust properties.

“She was a great fan of tennis and always enjoyed watching Wimbledon.

“Angela had a keen eye for interior design and enjoyed visiting antiques fairs.

“She was a good friend to everyone who knew her and will be greatly missed by all.”

Police are appealing for information following the accident, which happened at around 9.45am on July 3.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 24-year-old man from Blackpool, suffered a suspected broken ankle. He was later treated at Royal Preston Hospital.

Sgt Dave Hurst, of Lancashire Police, said: “These are tragic circumstances and my thoughts are with the family and friends of both women.

“We are appealing for witnesses to come forward and want to speak to anyone who can assist our investigation.

“If you saw what happened and have yet to speak to police, please get in touch.”
