Triathlon challenge for Lancaster St John’s

To cope with his grief eight-year-old Adam Marsh has decided to hold a triathlon to raise funds for Lancaster St John’s Hospice - who looked after his great gran in her final moments.

When Peggy Sidebotham passed away at 92-years-old it was the first time Adam had suffered a loss.

Peggy died from cancer of the uterus and Adam struggled to cope with not being able to see his her and her homemade cakes again.

But the ambitious Christ Church Primary School pupil has now set himself the triathlon challenge to raise as much as he can for the Slyne Road Hospice.

As part of the triathlon Adam will swim 500 metres at VVV Health and Leisure Club and then cycle 20 miles down the promenade and along the cycle path towards Caton.

Mum Helen Marsh said: “The hospice is very important to the family because Adam’s great grandpa also went there twenty years ago.

“He has been practising loads this year and it is amazing how much he has improved.

“This is quite the challenge for Adam. He has just got his 10 metres swimming badge and he can ride a bike and has done some little rides, only about six miles with many stops.

“To come up with this idea and train so hard at the grand age of eight has impressed us all, we are all very proud of him.”

Currently Adam has been running 5k along Morecambe promenade and has raised £300 in donations so far.
