Two casualties hospitalised after M6 crash near Lancaster

Two people have been taken to hospital after a crash on the M6 near Lancaster this morning (August 14).

The crash happened at around 7.50am when two cars collided on the northbound carriageway between junctions 34 (A683 Bay Gateway, Lancaster) and 35 (Carnforth).

Emergency services attended and two people have been taken to hospital with injuries.

A man in his early 50s has suffered back and leg injuries and a second person, whose age and gender is not known at this stage, has suffered an arm injury.

North West Ambulance Service said the injuries to both casualties are not considered major trauma.

Lanes 1 and 2 (of three) had been closed for more than an hour whilst emergency services responded, with reduced speed limits in force between the two junctions.

All lanes re-opened after the accident scene was cleared at around 9.30am.

The crash had led to slow traffic and long delays for motorists, with queues of around three miles for those approaching the scene.

An ambulance spokesman said: "We were called to an incident at 7.52am following reports of a road traffic collision on the M6.

"We attended with two ambulances taking two patients to hospital.

"A man in his early 50s with serious back and leg injuries and another patient (age and gender unknown) with an arm injury.

"Neither were classed as major trauma."
