Roadworks update for the North West: All major works from February 22 to March 7

The following summary of planned new and ongoing roadworks over the coming week is correct as of February 19 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

M6 between junctions 32 and 33

Work at Hardman’s Wood bridge is set to take two weeks from March 5 with a 40mph speed limit in place under the bridge for safety purposes while a new protective concrete barrier is installed in the southbound hard shoulder under the bridge – providing extra protection for the bridge from vehicle strikes. An overnight closure of the southbound carriageway will be in place from 9pm on Saturday, March 13 to 5am Sunday, March 14.

M6 junction 33 to junction 32

Small scale resurfacing is taking place along sections of the southbound M6 between junction 33 and junction 32 next week with the southbound carriageway closed overnight – between 8pm and 5am – on Friday, February 26. A diversion will operate along the southbound A6 and eastbound M55 from junction 1.

M6 junction 36 to junction 35

Small scale resurfacing is taking place along sections of the southbound M6 between junction 36 and junction 35 next week with the southbound carriageway closed overnight – between 8pm and 5am – next Thursday, February 25. A diversion will operate along the westbound A590, southbound A6 and eastbound A601(M).

M55 junctions 1 to 3

Narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are now in place along a short stretch of the motorway where a new junction (junction 2) is being constructed as part of Lancashire County Council’s Preston Western Distributor road project.

A585 Windy Harbour to Skippool improvement

Work to deliver a £150m new bypass and junction improvements is is underway with work at Skippool and Skippool Bridge junctions where the Highways Agency is dualing a short section of the existing single carriageway A585 and replacing the existing roundabout with a signalised crossroads. Narrow lanes and a speed reduction will be in place. The Highways Agency has also started work away from the A585 to construct the new Poulton junction which will form part of the new bypass.
